Karen,
Diastate must be what Children's Hospital doctors use alot. Here in Forrest City we have never had a student on Diastat (I am so glad). From listening to other nurses that have used it , it sounds like a nightmare.

AR school nurses,

Hope some of you are listening this summer!

I'm wondering if your district staffs RNs differently at schools that
have students with Diastat orders? My observation is that MOST of the
students with this order have never had a seizure lasting more than a
few seconds or less than a minute, and probably a history of only a
single seizure occurrence. Has anyone researched the protocols for this
order? I'm wondering if it is over prescribed? I don't want a student
who actually needs it to be without it at school, but in most cases it
seems like a huge staffing and security nightmare to me!

Thanks, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
